New to Canada and only available in our province - British Columbia, is Terre di Talamo’s Vento Forte 2009 – a unique late harvest vermentino wine crafted by Marco Bacci (Castello di Bossi Chianti fame) and his winemaking team at his Terre di Talamo Estate located in Maremma, Tuscany.
Vision of a sweet wine comes to mind when one thinks of late harvest but Vento Forte is fermented dry, aged in barrique for 12 months resulting in a rich, aromatic full-bodied white with a long finish that is slightly reminiscent of a fine sherry. The beauty of this wine is the acidity that arrives at the end of a long finish - it cleanses one’s palate and sets one for the next bite of food. A very unique wine with elegance and great balance!
This luscious, full-bodied white pairs well with grilled fish, lobster, dungeness crab, octopus with rosemary and tomatoes, grill vegetable appetizers, Italian cheese and honey. The initial sweetness suggested by complex fruit aromatics also lends itself to interesting Asian seafood pairings.
90 Points – James Suckling (Dec 2011) - “You can taste the ripe fruit and new wood on this Vermentino, with apple pie and cream. Full and delicious. Drink now.”
