Located in Comox, just a stone’s throw from the Georgia Strait, 40 Knots is a magical place where the forces of nature are at play. Their site is so influenced by wind and a seaside atmosphere (complete with salty air, sea lions, eagles, and playful swallows) that they paid tribute to these elements through the naming of the winery. This unique windswept environment results in drier leaf canopy that creates an ideal growing environment for vines when combined with plentiful sunshine and warm days. The marine air, which has been known to produce the odd storm force wind, gives way to the winery name 40 Knots. The exceptional effort that is put into 40 Knots as a grape-growing land makes way for the exceptional wines produced by the 40 Knots team, crafted with a strong focus on quality and merit.
40 Knots proprietor Bill Montgomery spent his life working the waters of British Columbia’s west coast as a tugboat captain and fleet owner before making the change to winery ownership. At Comox’s 40 Knots Winery, Bill works with his team to create wines that are as distinct and unique as the Vancouver Island site itself. Visit their website: www.40knotswinery.com for full details of the winery.
